Cindy Kalmenson
A perfect blend of irresistible tunes and sly, provocative lyrics
Cindy Kalmenson is an original voice in Nashville weaving deep sentiments with honesty and humor. Inspired and influenced by her favorite artists: Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, Neil Young, Joan Baez and Emmylou Harris, to name a few, Cindy has developed a unique and heart felt sound very much her own.
California girl leaves her native state for Nashville in '96 after a brief stint at being an actress in LA. In her 20's she taught bilingual second grade in Santa Cruz and Santa Monica as well as high school Spanish...After 7 years teaching school she was ready to chase her dream. At age 35 with no more than a car load of stuff, Cindy moved to Nashville to concentrate solely on writing and singing. Within a year she came out with her debut CD, Let Me Out HEre. The title track was featured in the HBO comedy BIG LOVE in 2006 and the title track also won first place in the 2003 International SOngwriting contest. In 2002, she co-produced Witness, with grammy award winner, Jon Randal. The title track won first place at the prestigious Chris Austin songwriter's contest at MerleFest in 2002. In 2005 Cindy gave birth to her first and only child, Sara. Naturally things changed. Now almost 3 years later, she's back on the road, family in tow, celebrating the release of her 3rd independent release, I'm Not Leaving which is quite ironic since her house is currently on the market in Nashville.
Seemingly a natural comedian (and something of a goofball, in the highest-praise sense of the word), she freely shares the stories behind her songs. Many of these tales left the crowd in stitches, and made the songs all the more poignant in the singing.
You will also undoubtedly learn that not only does she have a great voice and a natural feel for the guitar, but also that she used both talents to showcase the incredible natural acoustics of our early-20th-century theater. Forgoing the amplification system partway through the show, she revealed the engineering genius of the original designers and bulders of this theater. The quietest notes from her guitar rang clearly out into the room, and it's hard to imagine any high-tech engineering marvels making her voice any sweeter than it was that night, unaided by anything but the human soul.
Just about all of folks who took a chance on an unknown-in-these-parts act left the theater glad that they did. Join us on August 23rd, and prepare to be enthralled.
A few of her many awards include:
1st place Winner of the International Songwriting Contest for best country song: 2003
Spotlight artist in the Performing Songwriter Magazine Dec. 2003

Steppin' In It
 Traditional music with creative insight
Toting an ample supply of vintage instruments and a sound that brings listeners back to the days of old-time radio, Steppin’ In It is determined to make a dent in the roots community. Hailing from Lansing, Michigan, the heart of Factory Town, USA, these young men pound out their own brand of roots combining old-time country, swing and blues. Together, they achieve the seemingly impossible task of making the most traditional sounds contemporary playing what Performing Songwriter Magazine calls "some of the liveliest and most rocking acoustic roots music around." Upright Bassist Dominic Suchyta and multi-instrumentalist brothers Andy & Joe Wilson compliment the strong songwriting talents and haunting vocals of singer/songwriter Josh Davis.

Enter the Haggis
High energy collision of celtic, rock and world styles
There aren't many groups in North America who could lay claim to possibly 18 different genres of music, but Toronto's Enter The Haggis is one of them. To engage this quintet is to indulge rock, fusion, bluegrass, traditional Celtic fare, agitpop, folk, even Latin flavors. Sounds awfully confused, right? Wrong. ETH is one of those rare jewels that actually pulls it all off as if to own everything.
ETH's live show is a musical feast- viscerally dynamic, emotionally uplifting and intellectually stimulating. The band's oeuvre darts effortlessly from the trad strains of, say, The Chieftains and the Pogues to the frenetic pop of early Elvis Costello and even to the Latin-tinged spirit of the Buena Vista Social Club and beyond, complete with Lewington's deft guitar playing, the reeling of Brian Buchanan's flawless fiddle, the diverse rhythmic machinations of bassist Mark Abraham and drummer James Campbell, and Downie's transporting pipes, not to mention the near-perfect vocal harmonies.

He is a musical legend, a pioneer of one of the most intricate, yet powerful, forms of American music, and a master of the guitar; he’s Dan Crary, a flatpicking stylist with an international reputation for innovationn, taste and brilliance. As he approaches his 40th anniversary as a performer, Crary is one of the few artists whose work can be said to transcend boundaries of style and genre.
A long and distinguished recording career, featuring solo projects and group efforts and many guest appearances, have brought Dan acclaim as a versatile performer able to range from Mozart to Anglo-American fiddle tunes to moody, evocative original compositions. "Jammed If I Do," with guests Tony Rice, Doc Watson, Norman Blake, and Beppe Gambetta, was hailed as one of the decade’s great gatherings of guitarists, and his albums have garnered awards and rave reviews.
